One of the two was Monopoly, but everyone plays that and it's long and confusing, la-da-dee,la-da-da.
My other game is known to me as....
BEHOLD!!!!
DOTTY LINE!!!!!
Just saying maybe that's the actual name though....

Let's say it's Chanelle vs. Ryan.
Ryan draws on a piece of paper a dotted grid. (Move to blue dots.)
You can make it as big as you want, but DOTS ONLY. Lines wouldn't work.
Ryan's grid is 6 x 6 (36 dots). He starts by drawing a line so two dots are connected (yellow grid). If, however, you are not doing advanced play, (more on that later) you don't draw the lines diagonally. Chanelle goes next (pink grid). The aim of the game is to make a full 4-line square.
The person who makes the square is determined by the final line that makes the square (purple grid).
So the square is Chanelle's. She is the one who scores the point. You can split the squares into triangles and don't stop till the whole grid is full.
(WARNING: NO CHEATING!!!!)

Kia ora Sophie, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteWell done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this blog post about your favourite game.
Monopoly is such a fun and popular game which is played by people all over the world. There are also so many different variations of Monopoly such as the classic Monopoly, Monopoly Deal, and all of the different branded versions (Adventure Time, Game of Thrones, Marvel etc.)
Which version of Monopoly is your favourite?
Dotty Line is a game that I grew up playing and, like you, I was unsure as to what the game was actually called. I really like the way you have explained so thoroughly how to play, and even included both an image of a finished game and a step-by-step guide so your viewers can really understand the dynamics.
How did you come up with the idea of explaining the game visually?
When I used to play this game, we never split the squares diagonally. When you say you can do this, is it only once a square has been created, or can you do a diagonal line once the square has a top or bottom and just one side?
It would be great if you could reply to this comment and let me know.
You have done a fantastic job on this blog post! Keep up the excellent work!
Nga mihi
Hi Keiryn, my favourite version of monopoly is the Here & Now Edition (probably because it's the only one I have). You need to have at least 2 lines like an L before you make the triangle or you can can draw a line through the square.I came up with the idea of making a visual because I attemped to make a game, which failed miserably.
