For SlJ today I had to write to Prime Minister Jacinda Adern about one particular issue.
Dear Prime Minister,
We should ban CFC because it penetrates the ozone layer.
If harmful UV rays get through then not only will the risk of skin cancer increase, but the ice starts melting faster.
Then the water in the sea gets less salty, killing all the plankton which fish eat, causing the lack of seafood. Then people will start fighting about food, so they will breed more cows, setting off more methane.
This cycle will recur unless we be proactive and prevent this disaster.
If you had to write to Jacinda Adern, what would you write about?
Kia ora Sophie, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteYou have written an excellent letter to Jacinda Ardern here about the compound chlorofluorocarbon.
Chlorofluorocarbon can harm the ozone layer as well as affect the global climate, so it is definitely an important issue to be addressing with the Prime Minister!
You have mentioned the food chain dilemma which may come from this issue. The aquatic food chain relies on plankton as the base source, so without plankton it would be assumed that the larger creatures would die off.
I really like how you have thought about how this would then affect the lives of humans. Without seafood, you have predicted that humans would then eat more meat resulting in bigger quantities of methane in the atmosphere.
Do you have any ideas as to how we could be proactive and prevent this disaster?
What are some things you are doing to look after our planet?
I recycle as much as I can, and I also try not to buy things that I don't need or are in too much plastic packaging.
It would be awesome if you could reply to this comment and let me know!
Keep up the excellent work!
