Reading Task W8- Three Texts, Three Genres

This week for writing we wrote thoughts on three texts from different genres. Here are my thoughts, texts and questions. Feel free to comment questions below!

3 year old locks dad’s iPad for 48 years-Interest

Well, a 3 year old has disabled her dad’s iPad for 25,536,442 minutes. That equates to 48 years!! An iPad lockout occurs whenever someone repeatedly tries to enter the wrong password. The more times an incorrect password is entered, the longer the lock-out time. According to Apple you need to perform a restore to use the device again.

Twitter banned in Nigeria - International

Twitter was banned by the Nigerian government after their president had one of his tweets removed from it.The ban comes after protests in the country from the usage of force by the police.Twitter deleted an important tweet by the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. The president tweeted about issues within the country. He said that “misbehaving today” will soon be “treated in language they understand’. A lot of people, including Twitter, saw it as a threat. So Twitter deleted the tweet for breaking its rules. The government says that removing the president’s tweet was not the only reason for the ban. They say it's because of false information being put online.

NZ Sunscreen testing completed incorrectly- National

A new report has unveiled that some sunscreens used in New Zealand have been test incorrectly and the company rating them has been lying to manufacturers. This has resulted in some sunscreens having the wrong SPF rating.

The company is based in New York and are called AMA Laboratories. There owner Gabriel Letizia Jr has admitted lying to customers and giving the wrong SPF ratings. Letizia is now facing up to seven years in prison. Consumer NZ is asking manufacturers to urgently retest their products. Sunscreen tests were expensive and it is believed that AMA Laboratories was trying to save money. It is believe that they have defrauded customers of more than $NZ63 million. Key sunscreens in New Zealand that used results from AMA Labs include Ecosol Water Shield Sunscreen SPF50+, Natural Instinct Invisible Natural Sunscreen SPF30 and Sukin Suncare Sheer Touch Facial Sunscreen Untinted SPF30.

My thoughts

-Article 1: I think that the child won't be allowed on the Ipad again, if the family still keeps it anyway.

-Article 2: Twitter and other people have good reason to think that it's a threat, but the president should have just done a live broadcast about what he wanted to say.

-Article 3: The company, instead of lying and harming customers should be telling the truth about the ratings.

Questions I have for the texts:

-Did the Ipad ever get unlocked or reset? What was the child's punishment?

-Should we be careful how we tweet and read Twitter?

-Was AMA Laboratory shut down?
